Full-time Electronic/Development Engineer

Sable Systems International (SSI) is an instrumentation and software company specializing in metabolic measurement. Provide hands-on practical solutions to both SSI development team members and SSI manufacturing team members, regarding electronic and electrical issues associated with the implementation of both new SSI instrument, system and component designs as well as issues associated with established SSI instrument, system and component designs. Evaluate existing SSI systems, prototypes and proposals and recommend potentially beneficial design modifications, based on factors such as system capabilities, cost, serviceability and environmental impact.

1. Interface directly with both SSI development team members and SSI manufacturing team members regarding electrical/electronic product design details, design for manufacturability, manufacturing and verification concepts, and material planning for all new SSI developed product designs as well as existing SSI product designs.
2. Work cohesively with other SSI development team members to accomplish development projects in a cost-effective and timely manner.
3. Coordinate the completion of an electrical/electronic design from concept to hardware implementation within the mutually agreed upon time frame.
4. Identify, analyze and resolve, in concert with both SSI development team members and SSI manufacturing team members, any and all electrical/electronic design issues associated with existing SSI products.
5. As a member of SSI's development team, participate in periodic design review meetings to ensure compliance with established SSI procedures and SSI product requirements.
6. Coordinate electrical/electronic design efforts with other SSI relevant AORs to ensure effectual implementation of new SSI instrument/system/component designs.
7. Provide internal SSI product support as required on electrical/electronic components.
8. Design electrical/electronic verification/validation testing for all SSI developed/created products prior to releasing the product design to manufacturing.
9. Conduct research that tests and analyzes the feasibility, design, operation and performance of newly developed electrical/electronic product designs, components and systems.
10. Provides suggestions, analysis and technical expertise to SSI development team members on the latest relevant technologies needed for current projects.
11. Use logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions and approaches to the analysis of electrical/electronic design issues/ problems associated with both new SSI instrument/system/component designs as well as existing SSI instrument/system/component designs.
12. Give full attention to other SSI team member feedback or questions relative to any electrical/electronic design issues, taking time to understand the points being made, asking appropriate questions and ultimately providing proactive solutions.
13. Incorporate EMI/EMC design features and test parameters into all SSI instrument/system/component designs.
14. Research, evaluate, design and thoroughly test electrical/electronic components proposed for use in both new SSI instrument/system/component designs as well as the upgrading of existing SSI instrument/system/component designs.

1. BS degree in electrical engineering or a minimum of three to five years of related electrical/electronic design experience within companies that design, manufacture and market electronic and electromechanical instrumentation (pref. laboratory-oriented).
2. Minimum of three to five years design and draft experience with both digital and analog electronic circuitry and components for double sided, multi-layer, PTH, and SMT printed circuit designs.
3. Proficiency in the use of assembly and/or C/C++ languages in developing device firmware, firmware applications and microprocessor-based board level design.
4. Knowledge of the practical application of electronic/electrical engineering science, tools and principles as it relates to the ongoing design and manufacture of SSI instruments, systems and components.
5. Knowledge of electrical/electronic components, electronic assembly production processes, quality control, material costs, and other techniques for maximizing the effectiveness of the manufacture of SSI developed instruments, systems and components.
6. In depth experienced based understanding of microelectronic assembly techniques, process controls and production testing.
7. Maintaining above average basic personal computer skills including, but not limited to MS Word and MS Excel.
8. Proficiency with various industry standard PCB design software packages. Eagle profiency a strong plus.
9. Possess English based communication skills, both written and verbal.
10. Proficiency at writing technical test specifications and with generating process or procedural documentation for SSI product development/creation in concert with ISO9000 documentation standards.
11. Ability to proactively interact with SSI customers as well as with other SSI development team and SSI manufacturing team members.
12. Must be self-motivated with the ability to work well in a team environment.
13. Must be able to accept constructive criticism in a positive manner and deal calmly and effectively with high stress situations.
14. Ability to work independently with little to no supervision when required.
15. Professional response to all assigned tasks & requests.
