Primary Function of Position
Engineers at X-Biomedical will help design innovative surgical visualization systems and other emerging product lines. Electrical engineers at X-Biomedical are very hands on, helping to translate real user insight into actionable design opportunities and successful user experiences. As a natural collaborator and strong communicator, the electrical engineer will work with executives, engineering, clinical development, human factors, user research and marketing on the framing and defining of the future in surgical visualization systems. With an ability to explore, prototype and test a wide range of new ideas, the electrical engineer visualizes opportunity and helps build consensus on the right path forward. Focusing on the physical aspects of the product, she/he/they will employ an understanding of user needs, device function, strength, durability, failure analysis, materials, and manufacturing processes that transform complex mechanical designs into elegant forms that are usable, beautiful, and manufacturable.
Roles and Responsibilities
The electrical engineer will be responsible for defining and contributing to the design of new products at X-Biomedical. Working with internal and external company stakeholders, the electrical engineer will be responsible for the electrical and electromechanical design and development of surgical visualization systems and other emerging products. Such development activities will include defining constraints and system architecture, determining applicable regulatory standards, and conducting testing using the scientific method to evaluate performance.

Is knowledgeable on the latest embedded computing and imaging platforms.
Collaborates with mechanical engineers and industrial designers on power systems, heat dissipation, enclosures, electromechanical couplings, assembly process, durability testing, and off-the-shelf component selection.
Creates prototypes early and often to inform concept development.
Embraces failure as a learning opportunity.
Is able to utilize CAD tools to build schematics, route PCBs, track BOMs, and generate design files for manufacturing.
Has knowledge of firmware development for both embedded computing and microcontroller systems.
Contributes to and often leads the design and fabrication of compelling functional and/or appearance prototypes for review by team members, end users and human factors experts.
Is familiar with (or willing to dive deep into) IEC 60601 in order to define system requirements.

A comprehensive set of prototyping skills including circuit breadboarding, soldering, and cable assembly.
Experience with microcontroller programming languages (C/ C++, Arduino framework) and controlling electromechanical actuators such as solenoids, stepper motors, pumps, and valves.
Experience with electrical component selection, procurement from distributors, and cost tracking of PCB BOMs.
Experience with low latency, high mega-pixel image capture from MIPI CSI CMOS camera sensors and supporting optical lens systems.
Experience with SMPS design, LDO regulators, and the tradeoffs associated with both of them.
Experience with I2C, SPI, UART, CAN, Ethernet, and USB for sensor and debugging communication.
An understanding of IPC standards for PCB DFM.
Ability to combine electrical engineering objectives with the objectives of other team members.
Experience working successfully with engineering teams to develop designs and bring products to market.
A solid baseline understanding of electrical engineering principals such as Ohm’s law, Kirchoff’s laws, RC circuits, digital logic design, transistors, operational amplifiers, and filters.
Medical device and packaging design experience a plus.
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field of study.
5-8 years experience in the product development industry.
Ability to travel up to 10% of the time.
