This is an exciting time for the Open Source Initiative (OSI) as we prepare for our next phase of growth. The Executive Director will work with the board to build a bridge to a stronger future for OSI and the open source ecosystem. The candidate will set strategic direction and move the Open Source Initiative towards our vision, working with the staff and community to achieve measurable program outcomes.
This role is ideal for the experienced executive director who can take organizations to the next level. The candidate can set strategy and translate it into programmatic results, achieved through organizational leadership and operational excellence. Additionally, they have a strong understanding of open source culture and norms as well as the Open Source Initiative’s mission and programs. Plus, the candidate excels at managing ambiguity and drives for clarity and impact.
Job Responsibilities:
Provide organizational leadership by working with the board, staff, and stakeholders
Work with the board to set OSI’s strategic direction and annual goals, plans and budget
Build staff capacity through hiring and lead staff to achieve desired results
Ensure operational excellence by working with staff on financial and system management
Build relationships with multiple stakeholder groups
Fundraise to help OSI step further into its mission
Evangelize OSI’s mission through speaking engagements, blogs, and social media
Qualifications:
3-5 years of leadership experience
Strong organizational leadership skills
Experience setting strategy and plans that lead to measurable results
Board management experience including facilitating strategy sessions and providing board and committee meeting support
Staff management experience including leading hiring, onboarding and providing day to day staff management
Fundraising experience with proven results
Stakeholder management experience including networking, insight gathering, and convening
Experience being the primary spokesperson for an organization
Able to influence outcomes through education and stakeholder management
Strong operational experience covering financial, contact and policy management
Familiar with or strong acumen for operational tools such as CiviCRM, Drupal, GitHub, Google Drive, PayPal, Quickbooks, Zenefits
Self-driven, detail-oriented, deadline-driven
Strong communicator, both verbal and written
Positive reputation within our open ecosystem
This is a Remote (work from home) position. Target start date is July 2021.
