We are seeking a MAKER CATEGORY ASSOCIATE BUYER who has a passion for DIY electronics and maker products. As part of the Maker Assortment Team, you would be responsible for introducing our customers to all the possibilities of making. Our goal is to ensure that if a customer can dream it, they can make it using products from our shelves. You’ll work with vendors, many of which are makers in the community, to bring the best products at the best prices to our stores. Some travel is required to meet with vendors, attend Maker Fairs, industry conventions, conferences, and store visits. •Achieves gross margin, sales and total inventory turn objectives for the maker category
•Potential product categories could include the following: Raspberry Pi, Arduino and other microcontrollers, sensors, shields, and HATs, soldering tools, 3D Printing, components (resistors, LEDS, caps, switches, relays, wire, etc), STEM and robotics kits, prototyping and/or test equipment
•In partnership with the Buyer:
- Selects and purchases merchandise including type, quality, source, timing, delivery, mix and promotion
- Creates and implements plans to maximize gross profit by coordinating sales, gross margin, inventory turnover, cost of promotion and markdowns
•Recommends and directs the development and implementation of category merchandise strategy and tactical plans
•Coordinates with the Web Development team and Advertising/Marketing team to maximize merchandising opportunities. Proofs ad copy, page layout and design, and ensures web specifications and photos are accurate
•Develops and communicates effective merchandising programs at store level
•Monitors competitor pricing & forecasts top selling sku’s
- Collaborates with the following functional partners to achieve business and organization objective:
- Distribution and Transportation
- Visual Merchandising and Store Design
- Stores (Sales and Operations)
- Web Development
- Planning & Allocation
•Completes all other duties as assigned
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
•B.S Degree in Business, Computer Science or Engineering required
•2-5 years of product management, retail buying, purchasing or allocation experience strongly preferred
•Strong “Maker” product assortment knowledge including robotics, micro controllers, electronic components, SBCs, STEM products etc.
•Consumer Electronics buying and sourcing experience a plus
•Excellent communication skills (oral and written)
•Strong analytical skills
•Must be able to handle multiple tasks simultaneously and work with speed and accuracy
•Strong interpersonal & negotiation skills needed; a proven track record of establishing and maintaining positive relationships with vendors is a plus
•Ability to be a team player and build relationships with vendors is a must
